Unrivalled walking in the peaceful hills of Eskdale in South West Scotland.
Wildlife and Nature
The valleys of the River Esk and the Ewes and Wauchope Waters are extensively explored and contain many lovely corners that can only be reached on foot. There is an excellent variety of birdlife, some fine areas of woodland, and beautiful wildflowers in spring and summer.
Walks to enjoy
Walks range in length from 5km/3 miles up to 16km/10 miles but none is unduly strenuous and the walks are designed for enjoyment and pleasure rather than as a physical challenge. The walks also take in interesting historical sites.
Langholm Walks are colour coded to give you an indication of the duration and effort required.
A long but fairly easy walk through the Parish of Canonbie passing the “Fairy
Loup” waterfall and through the award-winning village of Rowanburn finishing
with a lovely walk along the banks of the rivers Liddel and Esk
The first and last 3km are on easy farm tracks. The central section is open
hillside, rough, pathless and often wet and is slow going. Superb views in all
directions are the reward. Can be tricky in mist.
